What do the local gas shortages mean to you and how can you prepare?
In Orange County, we're seeing a quick increase in the number of homes fed by natural gas. Whether you currently have natural gas, are building a new home that has natural gas access or use another form of fuel all together, it's a good idea to become familiar with other technologies that can help lower your use of these fuels. Areas as local as Westchester County are experiencing natural gas shortages so extreme it's causing them to limit their acceptance of new customer, even stopping completely. Although the natural gas shortages aren't an issue in our area yet, the problems in Westchester could be a warning to us. Also, many local homeowners have other forms of fuel that have a similar impact on the environment with rising costs annually.
What can you do? Consider a heating and cooling solution that limits your reliance on fossil fuels. High efficiency heat pumps are a great option.
There are mainly two types of systems. Air Source Heat pumps, also known as ductless or mini-split systems and Ground Source Heat Pumps, known as Geothermal systems. Both are extremely efficient which help lower your monthly utility bills. Since they're cleaner technologies, they also lower your reliance on fuels like oil, natural gas and propane and reduce your carbon footprint and emissions.
